Glenn's Interview with The Lone Tree Voice
Below is Glenn's recent interview with Haley Lena from The Lone Tree Voice
Haley - How long have you been a City of Lone Tree resident?
Glenn -
-
"My wife, Carol and I have lived in Douglas County for forty years, raised our twin daughters here, and have lived in Lone Tree the last eight years."
Haley - In your view, what is (or should be) the role and responsibility of a Lone Tree councilmember?
Glenn -
-
"From our City Charter, Lone Tree operates under a mayor–manager form of government, where the Mayor and City Council represent the interests of our residents by guiding and directing the work of city staff. A councilmember’s responsibility is to ensure that city policies, priorities, and deployed resources reflect the values and expectations of the people who live here."
-
"Lone Tree is growing rapidly. Much of the focus and effort of each councilmember is in ensuring thoughtful, balanced growth keeping the interests of the entire community in mind. It is critical to communicate regularly with residents so their voices are heard and considered in decision-making."
-
"Effective councilmembers work collaboratively, functioning as a team and leveraging each member’s strengths to make thoughtful, well-informed decisions. And when necessary, the council must adopt ordinances and policies that protect the safety, quality of life, and long-term interests of Lone Tree residents."
Haley - What makes you a good candidate for City Council?
Glenn -
-
"First, my experience. I was raised on a farm in Wyoming learning to appreciate hard work at an early age. I hold a degree in Civil and Architectural Engineering, and have served in senior management in the oil and gas industry. Later, I founded, grew, and after twenty years in business successful sold a company of my own. I was appointed by City Council to the Lone Tree Planning Commission in 2022, and elected Chairman in 2024 – the office I currently hold. My experience as an engineer, business leader, entrepreneur, and Planning Commission Chairman gives me the tools to evaluate development proposals carefully, understand infrastructure needs, and ensure that decisions serve the long-term interests of our residents."
-
"Second, I have the time to serve. With the sale of my business, I now can dedicate my full attention to the complex issues facing Lone Tree."
Haley - What are your top three priorities when it comes to the city and why.
Glenn -
-
"Safety - Lone Tree is a wonderful place to live, and residents should feel safe in their homes, on our streets, in our parks and along trails at all times. Without safety, nothing else matters. As our city grows, we must ensure our police and public safety services have the support and resources needed to maintain that high standard."
-
"Thoughtful Growth and Development – Lone Tree is a wonderful place to live - and more people want to live here! Each development proposal requires close examination, critical review, and careful consideration of its effect on existing neighborhoods."
-
"Preserve the Character of Lone Tree – Lone Tree is a wonderful place to live. We all chose to live here for a reason. I will work to preserve the qualities that define our community - safe neighborhoods, strong infrastructure, and a strong sense of community."
Haley - How would you go about disagreements with fellow council members?
Glenn -
-
"Differences of opinion are inevitable - and healthy. Achieving the best results, I believe, comes from a group with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences. Understanding that all council members have the goal of creating the best outcomes for our city, respectful, well-informed discussion and debate is necessary to reach the best decision. At the same time, once the discussion is complete and a vote is taken, it’s important for the Council to move forward together. We may not always agree, but we should remain aligned as a team in implementing decisions and serving the residents of Lone Tree."
Haley - What is your vision for the City of Lone Tree?
Glenn -
-
"My vision, largely, is the vision of Lone Tree residents as documented in the recently updated comprehensive plan 'Lone Tree Elevated'. This, over-arching guidance document is based on comments and concerns voiced by the community. There are reasons Lone Tree has the trails and open space we enjoy, the safe and quiet streets we appreciate, and the businesses that complement our community. Twenty-five years ago, city leaders made thoughtful decisions that shaped the city we live in today. We are the beneficiaries of that forethought and planning. Now it’s our turn to carry that responsibility forward — to make thoughtful decisions today so that 25 years from now, neighbors will still be saying, 'Lone Tree is a great place to live. I love it here'."
